Pioneers Downed by Rochester

The University of Rochester used a big day from Dean Kennedy to defeat Alfred State 38-13 on Saturday afternoon.  The Yellowjackets improve to 3-2 on the season while the Pioneers fall to 2-4.

Kennedy, the starting quarterback, rushed for 120 yards and two scores and passed for 151 yards and two scores to lead Rochester to the Homecoming victory.

Kennedy connected with Derek Wager on a 80-yard scoring strike on the first play of the game. He made it 12-0 with 6:33 remaining when he connected with Thomas Hayes on a five yard strike.

Rasheed Williams (Sweedsboro, NJ) cut the lead to 12-7 when he scampered in from seven yards out with 1:19 left in the 1st.

Kennedy gave the Yellowjackets a two score lead again in the first minute of the 2nd quarter when he rushed in from 15-yards out.  Myles Allen dove in from three-yards out to give U of R a 25-7 halftime lead.

Kennedy put the game out of reach with 8:49 remaining in the 3rd quarter when he executed the read option and ran in from 41-yards out.

Greg Hampton (Uniondale) connected with Devin Simmons (Elmira Free) on a 4-yard pass play to make it 32-13 with 4:24 left in the 3rd put the Pioneers would not be able to get on the board again.

Shane Saucier dove in from one yard out in the closing minute to cap the scoring.

Kennedy was 9 for 14 for his 152 yards and carried it 13 times for 120.  Wager finished with 102 yard receiving on three catches.

Williams rushed for 72 yards and a score on 19 carries, Hampton was 20 for 37 for 193 yards, and Simmons caught nine passes for 89 yards.

Nick DePofi (Union Endicott) led the defense with six tackles and a sack while Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) added six tackles.  Matt Munson (Clyde Savanah) also had a sack.

RJ Borgolini led the Yellowjackets with nine tackles while James Barrett had 6.5 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

U of R finished with 400 yards of offense while Alfred had 295.  Alfred was just 5 of 17 on 3rd down and 1 of 5 on 4th down.  The Pioneers were also slwed down by nine penalties.

Alfred returns home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff with Erie CC at Pioneer Stadium.
