Pioneers Race Past Vikings

The Alfred State football team defeated Hudson Valley CC 41-14 to wrap up their home portion of their season with a 3-0 record and evened up their overall record to 4-4.

The Pioneers got on the board on their first possession when Rasheed Williams (Sweedesboro) took a pitch on a broken play and raced in from 33-yards out.

Nick DePofi (Union Endicott) made it 14-0 a minute and a half later when he picked off a Viking pass and returned it 80-yards down the sideline for the score.

Williams found the back of the endzone for the second time in the 1st quarter when he dove in from two yards out to make it 21-0.

Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) accounted for all the scoring in the 2nd quarter when he connected on field goals of 42 yards and 23 yards.

Ismail El-Amin (Rochester/Wilson) made it 34-0 early in the 3rd quarter when he caught a 67-yard scoring strike from Gregory Hampton (Uniondale).

The Vikings got on the board twice in the 4th quarter on a 1-yard run by Eric McCoy and a 1-yard touchdown catch by former Pioneer Mikel Demonte from Nick Casale.

Khris Greggs (Rochester/Aquinas) capped the scoring with 1:26 remaining when he ran in from three yards out.

Hampton finished 10 for 21 for 150 yards on the day, Williams rushed for 62 yards on 18 carries, and El-Amin had 83 yards on two catches.

Varney Dassin made 10 catches for 97 yards while Chris Osterman accumulated 85 yards on four catches.  Casale finished 13 for 29 for 144 yards.

Phalen led the defense with 13 tackles and a forced fumble while DePofi had 11 tackles and the pick six.  Rory Spain (Tully) chipped in nine tackles, David Howell (Greece Athena), Rusel Yerger-Moe (Iroquois), and Bradley Clapp (Akron) all recorded a sack, and Kristian Guy (Erasmus Hall) picked off a pass.

Alfred accumulated 375 yards of offense while Hudson Valley CC had 353.  The Pioneers forced five turnovers and did not lose the ball once.

The blue & gold finish up the 2013 season with a pair of roadtrips starting with a 1 p.m. battle with Southern Virginia.
