Simmons and DeGroat to Play in USA Football Bowl

Alfred State senior football players Devin Simmons (Elmira Free) and Mike DeGroat (Vestal) will participate in the 20th edition of the USA Football Bowl game on January 20th in Hoover, AL.

Simmons caught a team high 29 passes for 341 yards and five scores for the 4-6 Pioneers.  He is the Pioneers all time leading receiver with 86 catches and 1,339 yards in his three years wearing the blue & gold.

DeGroat made 32 tackles (10 solo and five for a loss) from his defensive line position this year. He also was credited with two sacks and a recovered fumble.  For his three year career at Alfred, DeGroat recorded 69 tackles (21 solo and 13 for a loss) and recovered two fumbles including recovering a fumble for a score.

Simmons and DeGroat will participate in the four day event that culminates in the contest featuring seniors from across the country on Monday.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
