Davis Hangs on to Defeat Pioneers

Davis College held off every Alfred State attempt to rally in the 2nd half to earn a 76-71 victory at the Orvis Activities Center on Tuesday evening.  The Falcons improve to 11-14 on the year with the victory.

Davis led 38-25 at half but the Pioneers fought right back into the game with an early run in the 2nd half.  Alfred trailed 47-45 but Davis once again was able to push the lead back to 12, 70-58, with just over two minutes remaining.  The blue & gold scored the next nine points to cut it to 70-67 but Davis hit six foul shots in the final 46 seconds to seal the victory.

Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) led the Pioneers with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Charles Ingram (Harlem/Seward Park) had a career high 20 points in his first career start of the year.  Adam Fezza (Southhampton) chipped in six points and Donnie Stevenson (Red Creek) added six.

Dexter Terry led the Falcons with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Jarrod Thomas finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, and six steals while Mylo Mitchell chipped in 16 off the bench.

Alfred State shot 42.4% from the field but was slowed down by 23 turnovers.  Davis shot 36.2% and connected on 21 of 37 foul shot attempts.

The Pioneers close out the 2013-14 campaign on Sunday when they battle SUNY Canton at 5 p.m.
