Alvernia scored ten unanswered goals in their 11-3 victory over Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers led 2-1 after the 1st quarter before the Crusaders scored the games next ten goals.
Alvernia held a 3-2 lead at the half and then scored the only seven goals of the 3rd quarter to push their lead to 10-2. Both teams netted a goal in the 4th.
Benjamin Manning and Colin Rothweiler both netted hat tricks for Alvernia while Mason Etier made 11 saves in net to earn the victory.
Michael Maranga (Rockaway/St. Edmund) led the Pioneers with a pair of goals while Aaron Buck (Churchville Chili) scored once. Nathan Serio (Silver Creek) passed out an assist while Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made 23 saves.
Alvernia held a 40 to 23 shot advantage and a 43 to 33 advantage in ground balls. Both teams were 1 for 5 with an extra man.
The Pioneers continue their spring break road trip on Monday with a 4 p.m. contest at Greensboro.
