Pioneers Defeat NCCC

The Alfred State lacrosse team earned a tight 8-7 victory over Niagara CCC on Wednesday afternoon. Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) led the way as the Pioneers won their second in their last three contests.

Alvarado led the way with three goals and five assists while Patrick Matkoski (West Genesee) netted two goals. Nathan Serio (Silver Creek) and Brian Mitchell (Lake Shore) each had a goal and an assist while Devon Bronner (Cicero) scored once.

NCCC led 1-0 after the 1st quarter, it was knotted up at 3-3 at half, and the Pioneers held a 7-6 lead after three quarters. The Pioneers won 13 of the 16 faceoffs in the contest.

Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made nine saves in net to earn the victory.

The blue & gold are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Houghton for a 1 p.m. start.
