Pioneers Close Out Season

Elmira College scored six unanswered goals and held Alfred State scoreless in the final 38:14 as they defeated the Pioneers 10-4 in the season finale for both teams.

Elmira jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first 7:33 of the contest before the Pioneers clawed back behind goals by Teddy Alvarado (Hilton), Aaron Buck (Churchville Chili) and Dominic Arresta (Southhampton). Eric Hallman gave Elmira back the lead, 6-4, with a goal with 1:30 left in the 1st half.

The Eagles kept the Pioneers off the board the rest of the way and added to their lead with two goals in the 3rd and three more in the 4th. Key to the 2nd half shutout was the Eagles killing off five Alfred State extra man opportunities. The Pioneers finished just 1 for 7 on the game with the extra man.

Skyler Pradelski led Elmira with a hat trick while Anthony LaRusso and Nevin Olney found the back of the net twice. Cameron Prior made 15 saves to earn the victory.

Alvarado led the Pioneers with two goals and an assist while Buck had a goal and an assist. Arresta scored once and Nathan Serio (Silver Creek) picked up an assist. Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made 13 saves.

Elmira held a slight 33 to 29 shot advantage and a 37 to 35 advantage on ground balls for the game. Alfred State won 10 of the 18 faceoffs but the Pioneers were slowed down by 25 turnovers in the contest.

The game was the final contest for three Pioneer seniors, Chris Lynch (Cornwall), David Londono (Long Island City), and Joe Ford (Holley).
