Franciscan scored twice in the first twenty minutes as they defeated Alfred State 3-1 on day two of the Bethany College Tournament.
Leo Herrmann scored 53 seconds into the game on a header after a corner kick by Joseph Durran to give Franciscan the early lead. The pair connected on another goal 20:07 into the game on another header after a corner.
The game remained 2-0 until the 79th minute when Albert Senyah Breezy (Central Islip) scored after getting a pass from Cooper Weinman. Just over two minutes later the Barons regained their two-goal lead when Joe Francis scored.
Alfred State held a 14 to 10 shot advantage in the game. Thomas Dosedel made four saves in the 1st half to earn the victory while John Bolster made three saves in the 2nd.
The Pioneers (1-3) wrap up their season opening five-game road trip next Sunday when they travel to D'Youville for a 1 p.m. start.
