Two Late Goals Lift Broncos

Joffre Portilla scored twice in a span of 4:41 in the last nine minutes of the game to lift SUNY Delhi to a 3-1 victory over Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. The win lifts the Broncos to 10-3 on the year.

Joseph Vazquez started the scoring in the contest with a goal 16:12 into the game. He took a long pass from David Vasquez and was able to beat the keeper on a one-on-one play.

Zachary Curran (Williamson) tied it up with 3:17 left in the half when he netted his first of the season on a tick-tac-toe play. Nick Donner (Lancaster) started the play with a cross to the middle to find Brandon Holley (Livonia). Holley found Curran on the far side and Curran's shot went into the corner of the net.

The game remained tied until the 82nd minute when Portilla laced a direct kick off the hands of the keeper and into the net. With five minutes left in the contest, Portilla put the game out of reach when he capitalized on a penalty kick.

Delhi held a 13 to 8 shot advantage in the contest. Ryan Hennessy made four saves to earn the victory while Jacob Bartz (West Seneca) made five saves for the blue & gold.

The blue & gold hit the road on Tuesday when they travel to Nazareth for a 4 p.m. game with the Flyers.
