Pioneers Rally to Earn Spot in ACAA Championships

The Alfred State men's soccer team fell in an early 2-0 hole but was able to rally to defeat Maine Presque Isle 3-2 in the ACAA Tournament semifinals. The Pioneers advance to tomorrow's final vs. Pine Manor College.

Cody Blair scored in the 5th minute and in the 14th minute to give the Owls the quick lead. 21:18 into the game Brandon Holley (Livonia) cut the lead in half with his team leading 8th goal of the season.

The Pioneers continued to mount the pressure and was finally able to get the equalizer with 3:51 remaining when Kory Zimmer (Livonia) tied it up after getting a pass from Nick Donner (Lancaster). Donner set up the winning goal 1:03 later when he found Tyler Landries (Genesee Valley) who found the back of the net.

The blue & gold held a 35 to 7 shot advantage in the game. Jacob Bartz (West Seneca) made two saves in net to earn the victory.

Alfred State and Pine Manor will battle at 3 p.m. tomorrow for the title. Pine Manor scored three 2nd half goals to defeat SUNY Canton 3-1.
