Pioneers Double Up Pitt Bradford

The Alfred State men's soccer team doubled up Pitt Bradford 2-1 to earn their second straight victory. The win evened up the Pioneers record at 4-4 on the season.

Alfred State had chances early but the contest remained scoreless until the 40th minute when Brian Markel (Arkport) picked up a loose ball and fired a long rocket shot into the corner of the net. The goal was the first of the season for Markel.

Just 3:09 into the 2nd half, Bradford tied it up when they executed a nice corner kick play. Brian Bao found the head of Mohammed Al Qahtani. Al Qahtani slipped the header into the far corner of the net.

The game remained tied until the 71st minute when the Pioneers answered back with the game-winning goal. For the second game in a row Jake Vattimo (Geneseo) was able to head in a corner kick. This time Vattimo got the pass from Albert Senyah Breezy (Central Islip).

The Pioneers held a 20 to 10 shot advantage in the contest. Jacob Bartz (West Seneca) earned the victory with five saves while Colin Frownfelter made 10 saves for the Panthers (0-8).

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they host Bryant & Stratton at 7 p.m.
