Lady Pioneers Roll Past Cobleskill in Opener

Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) and Melissa Mineti (Livonia) each recorded hat tricks as the Alfred State women's soccer team defeated SUNY Cobleskill in the season opener for both teams. 

Salatel got the Lady Pioneers on the board ten minutes into the game after getting a great crossing pass from Brooke Geibel (Arkport. Geibel made it 2-0 with just over four minutes left in the 1st half when she headed in a pass from Darien Hooker (Canisteo Greenwood).

The Pioneers dominated the 2nd half netting seven goals and outshooting Cobleskill 20-0. Jocelyn Brittingham (Hornell) scored six minutes in after getting a cross from Dannielle O'Buckley (Ansbach). Salatel scored twice in a three and half minute span to complete her hat trick. Brittingham was credited with both assists.

Mineti scored three of the final four goals of the game in the last nine minutes of the game. Kylie Newman (Waverly) also found the back of the net. Sarah Farnum (Churchville Chili), Taylor Dechow (Randolph), and Chole Cox (Tuscon, AZ) picked up assists.

Salatel finished with the hat tricks while Brittingham finished with a goal and two assists. Geibel also had a multiple point night finishing with a goal and an assist.

The Pioneers held a 37 to 1 shot advantage in the game. Allison Danielak (Brockport) recorded the shutout in goal for Alfred State.

The Lady Pioneers are back in action on Sunday when they hit the road for a 2 p.m. contest with SUNY Delhi.
