Keystone Downs Lady Pioneers

The Alfred State women's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit but Keystone answered back for a 4-2 victory on Wednesday evening. The Giants improve to 2-2 while the Pioneers fall 3-2.

Gina Carbonara got the Giants on the board in the 4th minute after getting a pass from Brittany Sugalski. Shauna Menzella made it 2-0 in the 37th minute after getting a crossing pass.

The Lady Pioneers tied it early in the 2nd half when they scored twice in 3:22. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) scored at 54:56 after getting a pass from Melissa Mineti (Livonia). Stormi Kruger (Medina) tied it up moments later when she scored after a scramble in front.

Salatel has now scored in each of the Lady Pioneers five games and has a team best eight goals on the season.

Cassie Ehrhart gave Keystone back the lead in the 63rd minute when she capitalized on a penalty kick. Nina Carbonaro added an insurance goal in the 81st minute off a corner kick by Rebecca Lewis.

Alfred State and Keystone each recorded 18 shots in the contest. Rebekah Shepherd made eight saves to earn the win while Allison Danielak (Brockport) made six saves for the Lady Pioneers.

The Lady Pioneers continue their road trip this weekend when they head to Williamsport, PA for a pair of games. They battle Penn College on Saturday at Noon and Lycoming on Sunday at Noon.
