Lady Pioneers Down Delhi

The Alfred State women's soccer team defeated SUNY Delhi 4-1 to improve to 2-0 after the first weekend of the season. The Lady Pioneers have outscored their opponents 13-1.

Darien Hooker (Canisteo Greenwood) got the Lady Pioneers on the board with her first career goal after getting a pass from Julia Yanarella (Roy Ketcham). Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) made it 2-0 heading into halftime when she scored from Melissa Mineti (Livonia).

Mineti found Salatel again early on in the 2nd half to make it 3-0. Salatel now has five goals on the year. After a Delhi goal by Erica Cornmire, Alfred State got an insurance goal by Mineti. Mineti now has four goals and two assists on the young season.

Allison Danielak (Brockport) made six saves in net to earn the victory.

The victory was the 100th victory for Alfred State head coach Anne Holmok during her second stint at the helm of the women's soccer program. Holmok is now 100-48-10 since returning the Lady Pioneers sideline. 

The Lady Pioneers are back in action next weekend when they play a pair of home games. They take on Christendom (VA) on Saturday at Noon and Pitt-Bradford on Sunday at 3 p.m.
