Lady Pioneers Drop a Pair

The Alfred State softball team dropped a pair on day two of their spring break trip to Ft. Myers, 11-6 to St. Joseph's (CT) and 17-1 to Dominican. 

In the opener, St. Joseph's scored six runs in the 2nd after scoring a single run in the 1st to grab an early 7-0 lead. Trailing 10-1 in the 5th, the Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) drove home a run on a ground out and Amanda Rockefeller (Bolivar Richburg) scored on a passed ball. The Bluejays added a run in the 6th but the Pioneers scored three in their half to cut it to 11-6 but couldn't get any closer.Marissa Durkee (Dryden) had a RBI single in the 6th and O'Keefe hit a sac fly.

Allison Gibson (Arkport) was 3 for 4 with a RBI to pace the 9-hit attack. Stormi Krueger (Medina) was 2 for 3 while Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) was 2 for 4. O'Keefe had two of the Lady Pioneers four RBI.

In the nightcap, Dominican collected fifteen hits and used two big innings to cruise to the victory. The Stars scored five in the 1st and ten in the 3rd. They were also able to take advantage of six Lady Pioneer errors.

Billie Chappell (Dansville) drove home the lone Alfred State run with a RBI ground out in the 5th.

The blue & gold have Sunday off but return to action on Monday when they take on Geneva at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin-Superior at 11 a.m.
