Lady Pioneers Split Season Finale

The Alfred State softball team split a pair with RIT as they wrapped up the 2015 season. The Lady Pioneers took the opener 3-1 and the Lady Tigers won the nightcap 8-5.

In the opener, Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) fired a four-hitter and the Lady Pioneers scored two run in the 4th to break a 1-1 tie.

Hanrahan went the distance to pick up the win, her 7th of the season. She allowed just four singles while walking none and striking out four.

Claire Hartman (Alden) delivered a RBI triple in the 1st for the Lady Pioneers to open up the scoring but the Tigers answered back when they plated a run following two fielding errors.

In the decisive 4th inning, Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) had a RBI double followed by a RBI single by Hartman.

Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) was 3 for 4 on the day while Hartman was 2 for 2. Stormi Kruger (Medina) added two hits in three at-bats.

In the nightcap, McKenzie Martin hit a solo homer in the 5th to break a 1-1 tie and then the Tigers exploded for six runs in the 6th to gain a comfortable lead. The Lady Pioneers tried to rally, plating three in the 6th and another in the 7th but could not get any closer.

Kruger was 2 for 2 with a RBI while Hanrahan was 2 for 3.

Kelly Meegan and Sarah Wolcott both collected multiple hits for RIT while Sierra Valentine struck out eight in six innings to earn the victory.

The Lady Pioneers finish the season 12-24 including a 10-12 mark since returning from their southern trip.

Prior to the game, the coaching staff honored the Lady Pioneers three graduating players, Rebecca Hanrahan, Renee Stanford, and Taylor McCarthy.
