The Alfred State Women's Basketball team won today's game 51-49. The overtime victory against former conference rival Medaille is the Pioneers second win in a row.
Tied up after two quarters at 23, the Pioneers came back firing on all cylinders in the third. Alfred State outscored the Mavericks 14-5 in the quarter. Medaille fought back in the fourth tying it back up, forcing overtime. With both teams tied at 49 in OT, Calesta Reigelman (Johnson City, NY / Johnson City) made two game-winning free-throws with one second remaining.
Jenna George (Dansville, NY / Dansville) and Taylor Benjamin (Newark Valley, NY / Newark Valley) led the Pioneers in scoring with 13 apiece. George tallied five steals, leading the Pioneers defense with constant pressure on the ball. George also had five boards and went 6-13 from the field. Benjamin went 6-17 from the field and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
The Pioneers are back in action on December 30 against Oswego at home.
