Pioneers Take 2nd at AMCC Championships

The Alfred State women's swimming & diving team capped a strong season with a 2nd place finish in the AMCC Championships.The Pioneers scored 584 points in the four-day event to earn their best finish at the AMCC's in school history.

Jessie LaRue (Livonia) concluded an impressive first season at Alfred State by claiming her 2nd AMCC title. She won the 200 backstroke in 2:11.64.

Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield) was 2nd in the 1650 (18:50.08) while Kelsey Lynch (Wellsville) was 2nd in the 200 fly (2:34.78). The 400 free relay team of LaRue, Elizabeth Drake (Lansing), Lewis, and Megan Hendershot (Brockport) finished 2nd in 3:53.68.

Other top performances included:

Penn State Behrend took the team title with 673 points followed by Alfred State. Franciscan was 3rd (327), Penn State Altoona 4th (170), Pitt Bradford 5th (27), and SUNY Delhi 6th (13).

At the conclusion of the meet, Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) was named the AMCC Diver of the Year. Stevens won both the 1m and 3m AMCC titles earlier in the championships. This is the second straight year she has earned the Diver of the Year honors.

The Pioneers re-wrote the Alfred State record book with their performances at the event.
