Athletic Trainers Awarded Havens Honors

The trio of Alfred State athletic trainers, Alexe Pask, Rebecca Straub, and Kylie Bierman, have been named the recipients of the 2021 William Havens Award. The Havens Award is given to the person(s) within the athletic department who has gone beyond the call of duty in making the greatest contribution in aiding the mission of the athletic department during the past year.

In a year of twist and turns as the college and the country battled the COVID pandemic, the Alfred State athletic training staff wrote and executed policy and procedures to insure a safe return to practice and play. They managed the small group practices in the fall semester and then tackled the spring semester that included countless COVID tests, new policies and procedures, and numerous schedule changes. Their flexibility, adaptability, and hard work was evident to our department staff and student-athletes.

Pask, the head athletic trainer, has been part of the Pioneer athletic department since 2012 and primarily covers football, women's basketball, and softball.

Straub has been part of the staff since 2017 and is the primary contact for volleyball, women's soccer, swimming & diving, cross country, and track & field.

Bierman joined Alfred State in 2017 and works with the men's soccer, men's basketball, wrestling, and baseball teams.
