Nick Serce takes a pitch

Serce Homers - Cardinals Rally to Down Pioneers

The Alfred State baseball team jumped out to an early lead but St. John Fisher rallied and downed the Pioneers 9-6.

Nick Serce (Irondequoit) got the Pioneers on the board in the 1st inning when he connected on a three-runner homer to right center. The homer was the second on the year for Serce.

The Cardinals answered back with a run in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th to tie it at 3-3. In the 5th, St. John Fisher took the lead for good with four runs. They added another run in the 6th before Sam Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) got the Pioneers back within 8-5 when he doubled in a pair in the top of the 7th.

In the 7th, St. John Fisher added a run on a RBI single but the Pioneers made it 9-6 in the 8th when Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) hit a RBI single. In the 8th and in the 9th the Pioneers had the tying run on deck but could not get any closer.

Dickerson who came off the bench was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits. He finished 2 for 2 with a double and a triple.

A doubleheader vs. Keystone scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed. The Pioneers now have a couple days off before they return to AMCC play on Saturday when they head to Mt. Aloysius for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
