Pioneers Edge Wildcats

The Alfred State men's basketball team edged Penn College 48-43 on Monday evening to earn their third victory of the season. The Pioneers held a 14-point halftime lead and held off all the Wildcat rallies in the 2nd half.

Alfred State raced out to a 34-20 halftime lead after shooting 48.3% from the field. The Pioneers went ice cold in the 2nd half shooting just 2 for 23 but was able to hold the Wildcats who cut the blue & gold's lead to two, 45-43, with just under three minutes remaining. Both teams struggled from the foul line but the Pioneers hit three of their final foul shots in the closing minute to secure the victory. Alfred State finished 14 for 28 from the line while Penn College hit only 6 of 18.

Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) led the Pioneers with 10 points while Justin Wallace (Mount Vernon) had nine. Tyler Elliott (Perry) had six points and 10 rebounds while Robbie Adams (Jasper Troupsburg) had five points and eight boards.

Nathaniel Brown led the Wildcats with 10 points while Bryce Lonsway had seven. Ezra Adams chipped in five points and nine rebounds.

Alfred State held a 54 to 42 advantage on the boards but was slowed down by 21 turnovers.

The blue & gold are back in action on Friday evening when they travel to Pratt for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
