Big Run Lifts Pioneers to Second Straight Victory

The Alfred State men's basketball team used a 10-0 run in the 2nd half to gain separation en route to a 84-74 victory over Keuka on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the run, the Wolves had tied the game at 42-42.

The Pioneers led 33-28 at halftime and saw the Wolves sneak back into the game and tie it up at 42-42. Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy), who was held scoreless in the first half, scored seven of the next ten points to give the blue & gold their biggest lead of the game. The 10-0 run forced a Keuka timeout but the Pioneers continued to add to their lead until they led by 17, 69-52, with just over six minutes left in the contest. Keuka tried to fight back but never got closer than eight.

Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) had a big night for the Pioneers. He finished with 18 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, and five steals. Edwards finished with 15 points, all in the 2nd half, and Justin Wallace (Mt. Vernon/Mt. St. Michael) came off the bench and had 13. Dondre Davis (Brooklyn/William Grady) had nine, Juwan Tolliver (Buffalo/McKinley) chipped in eight, and Matt Tebbe (Marathon) added seven. 

The Pioneers shot 49.2% fromt he field, hit seven three pointers (41.2%), and was 17 of 32 from the foul line. The Pioneer bench accounted for 33 points compared to 10 for the Wolves.

Greg Tyler led the Wolves with 19 points while Jelani Fontanez was 7 for 7 from the field and had 17. Cliff Stevens added 12. KC shot 49% from the field, 35.3% (6 of 17) from three, and 60% from the foul line.

The blue & gold travel to Morrisville next Saturday for their final game of 2016. Tip-off vs. the Mustangs is slated for 2 p.m.
