Late Run Lifts Pioneers Past Owls

The Alfred State men's basketball team finished the game on a 14 to 2 run as they defeated Maine Presque Isle 59-51 on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers have now won four of their last five.

The Pioneers and Owls played a back and forth for the first 30 minutes of the game. UMPI led 44-43 with 9:30 remaining and then went on a 7 to 2 run to gain a 51-45 lead. Justin Wallace (Mt. Vernon/Mt. St. Michael) sealed the game with a three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining.

Edwards was the lone Pioneer in double figures finishing with 11 points.  Sayquan Chambers (Queens/Richmond Hill) chipped in nine points off the bench while Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) finished with eight points and six assists and Tyler Elliott (Perry) had eight points and 10 boards.

Kevin Collins led Presque Ilse (6-6) with 20 points while Maurice Harris had a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
