Pioneers Make it Three Straight

The Alfred State men's basketball team earned their third straight victory 78-70 over D'Youville in their first contest of the 2017 portion of the season. Four different Pioneers finished in double figures in the victory.

The Pioneers never trailed after the first minute of the game. The team led by six, 36-30, at the break and held a 21-point lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the game.

The guard play of Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) and Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) led the way for the blue & gold. Edwards connected on four 3-pointers and finished with a game high 20 points while Davis finished with 10 points and nine assists. Marcus Rhett (Middletown) added 11, Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) was 5 for 6 from the field for 10 points, and Tyler Elliott (Perry) finished with eight points, seven boards, and three blocks.

The Pioneers shot 42.3% from the field, 30.8% from three, and hit 14 of their 25 foul shot attempts. The team also held a 57 to 54 advantage on the boards. 

Jeremy VanDuluitgarden led the Spartans (3-8) with 14 points while Simeon Heard and Zach Blask each finished with 10. D'Youville shot 32.6% from the field 26.7% (8 of 30) from three, and 37.5% from the foul line.

The Pioneers hit the road this weekend for a pair of games in Maine. They battle Maine Fort Kent on Friday and then travel to Maine Presque Isle on Saturday.
