Wallace Nets 20 in OT Loss

Justin Wallace (Mt. Vernon/Mt. St. Michael) netted 20 to lead four players in double figures as Alfred State lost a 86-80 overtime contest at Morrisville. The contest featured eight ties and 18 lead changes.

The blue & gold led by as many as eight points in the 1st half, 35-27, but the Mustangs cut the lead to 37-35. Morrisville had a fast start in the 2nd half and grabbed a 46-41 lead but the Pioneers bounced back and held a 67-61 lead when Walace hit a three with 2:52 remaining. The Mustangs tied up the game by going on a 7 to run in the next two minutes. The Pioneers had a shot to win it in regulation but missed a three-pointer with three seconds remaining.

Morrisville scored the first points of overtime and never lost the lead. Wallace hit a three with 3:13 remaining to make it 74-73 but the Pioneers would never get any closer. The Mustangs scored 13 of the next 16 points to take control of the contest.

Wallace hit 4 three-pointers and led the team with 20 points. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) scored 18, Marcus Rhett (Middletown) had 16, and Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) chipped in 7 points and passed out 14 assists.

The Pioneers shot 40.3% from the field, hit 7 of 23 three-point attempts, but hit only 50% (15 for 30) of their foul shots. 

Kevin Dennis led the Mustangs with 26 points (8 of 13 from the foul line) and 17 rebounds (11 offensive). Trent Ward finished with 19 points while Jordan Hoose chipped in nine. Morrisville shot 42.6% from the field, 26.9% from three, and hit 27 of their 39 foul shot attempts including 87.5% in the second half and overtime.

The Pioneers end the regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest at Mansfield.
