Pioneers Race Past Pratt

The Alfred State men's basketball team used an early 19-0 run to take control of the game en route to a 87-60 victory over Pratt Institute on Friday evening. The Pioneers improve to 7-9 and have won seven of their last ten games.

Two minutes into the game, Alfred State trailed 5-4 before going on a 19-0 over the next six minutes to take control of the game. The offense continued to click as the Pioneers led 53-35 at the break. Midway through the Cannoneers cut the lead to 12, 65-53, but never got closer. The blue & gold closed the game on a 22-7 run.

Sayquan Chambers (Queens/Richmond Hill) led three Pioneers in double-figures. He was 8 for 13 from the field and had a season high 20 points. Justin Wallace (Mt. Vernon/Mt. St. Michael) continued to shoot well (4 for 8 from three) and finished with 14 while Marcus Rhett (Middletown) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

The Pioneers shot 45.3% from the floor, hit 7 of their 24 three-point attempts, and shot 66.7% from the foul line. The Pioneers had a 57 to 37 advantage on the boards.

Ari Grant led the Cannoneers with 26 points and 12 rebounds while Bubby Vernon chipped in 14. Pratt shot 33.3% from the field and connected on 8 of their 37 three-point attempts.

The Pioneers take on Berkeley College on Saturday at 3 p.m. to complete their weekend road trip.
