Pioneers Secure Win In Nail-biting Finish Over Houghton

Houghton, NY- Alfred State Men's Basketball Team secures their first win of the season 83-82 over Houghton. Five Pioneers scored in double figures, as Cody Schneider notched a double-double.

The reigning AMCC Player of the Week Paris Jamison continued his hot streak as he led the Pios with 21 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Schneider's double-double consisted of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Dylan Perry in his first game of the season tallied 14 points, while Zy Switzer added 11 points, and Emmanuel Leftenant added 10 points.

Jamison got ASC on the board first with back-to-back layups. A few possessions later Schneider notched two layups for the 9-8 lead. Then three minutes later, a Jamison steal led to a Schneider three to take a 16-8 lead. After a Jack Dignan timeout Perry got fouled on a three and would make all three free throws for the 19-8 lead. The Pioneers would weather the Highlanders run, and back-to-back threes from Perry and Michael Miller extended ASC's lead to 29-18. As the first half was coming to a close Jamison gave Alfred the 35-29 lead into half.

The second half got going with two layups from Leftenant and Schneider. The Pioneers would expand their lead to 15 in the next few minutes, before the Highlanders made a run to tie the game with a little over a minute left. After a foul, Perry knocked down two free throws to regain the lead, and Houghton answered with a layup to retie the game at 82-82. From there the Highlanders missed a three but fouled Perry on the rebound with nine tenths of a second left. Perry would knock down a free throw to ice the game and give the Pioneers their first win.
