Perry Hits Game Winner With 6.5 Seconds Left To Lift Pioneers Past Wells

Alfred, NY – The Alfred State men's basketball team tops Wells 62-60 behind a game winning shot from Dylan Perry with 6.5 seconds left. The Pioneers move to 10-10 on the season and 8-5 in AMCC play. 

Cody Schneider led the way for the Pioneers with 17 points and nine rebounds. Paris Jamison added 15 points and six rebounds and Michael Miller chipped in 10 points.  

Alfred State jumped out to a quick 9-2 run to start the game. The Pioneers lead went back to seven after a floater from Jamison with 9:41 remaining. Wells continued to fight, and they took a 26-25 after a made jumper with 3:54 remaining in the first half. The teams would trade baskets and Alfred State went into halftime with a two-point deficit, 33-31. 

The second half started with an 11-3 run from the Express and the Pioneers found themselves down 10, 44-34 with 15:27 remaining. Alfred State responded with a 16-2 run of their own, highlighted by a transition three-pointer from Miller and a steal and score from Schneider. The Pioneers now with a 50-46 lead. The game would go back and forth down the stretch, but Wells stretched their lead to three 60-57, after a pair of free throws with 2:01 remaining in the game. A block from Miller on one end and a bucket from Miller on the other cut the Express lead to one, 60-59. Two possessions later with Alfred State down by one, Miller intercepted a pass and hit Dylan Perry for a clutch three-pointer to give the Pioneers a 62-60 lead with 6.5 seconds left. A block from Schneider sealed the game for the Pioneers and they walked out with a 62-60 victory. 

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, February 3rd as they host the Lions of Penn St.-Altoona.
