Big Innings Hurt Lady Pioneers

Nazareth used big innings to sweep Alfred State in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Flyers used a eight run 2nd in the first game en route to a 11-2 win and a six run 5th inning in the nightcap en route to a 13-1 victory.

In the opener, Nazareth scored eight unearned runs in the 2nd inning to take control of the game. Morgan Ross led the Flyers with a 3 for 4, 1 RBI day while Maureen Rogers was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.

The Lady Pioneers scored their lone runs of the game in the 5th.  Melissa Barber (Nassau/Catholic Central) and Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) collected back to back triples and Courtney McDaniel (Arkport) picked up a RBI on a ground out.

Nazareth collected 17 hits and put the game out of reach with six runs in the 5th in the nightcap. Ross continued her big day with a 3 for 4, 2 RBI performance while Stephanie Mongelli and Rachel Mertens each collected three hits each.

Barber collected the Lady Pioneers lone RBI when she laced a triple down the left field line in the 3rd. 

Alfred State will look to bounce back on Saturday when they continue their homestand with a 1 p.m. doubleheader vs. SUNY Canton.
