Pioneers and Panthers Split

Alfred State and Pitt-Bradford split a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Houghton.  The Pioneers won the opener 10-2 while the Panther took the nightcap 14-4.

In the opener, Alfred State used a three run 1st inning to grab an early lead.  Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia) had the key two-run single.  Pitt-Bradford scored two in the 2nd but the Pioneers answered back with a RBI single by Dylan Lewis-Ellison (Wellsville).  The blue & gold put the game out of reach with three in the 3rd taking advantage of two Panther errors.  The Pioneers added two insurance runs in the 5th and another in the 6th.

Ryan Hedges (Arkport) threw a complete game six hitter to earn his third win of the season.  He allowed two earned runs while walking three and striking out seven.

Hierlwimmer led the Pioneers with a 2 for 3, 3 RBI day while Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) was 2 for 4.  Alfred State took advantage of eleven Panther walks.

Pitt-Bradford scored 10 runs in the 2nd and never looked back.  Hierlwimmer was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI for the Pioneers.  Austin Baker (Canisteo Greenwood) collected a double and scored and Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) tripled and scored.

Cody Johnston was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI while Connor Borowski was 2 for 5 with a RBI.  The Panthers took advantage of nine Pioneer walks.
