Scouting Alfred State:

  • The Pioneer defense sealed the victory with a goal line stand in the final minute as the Pioneers defeated the University of Rochester 27-21 last weekend. The Pioneers jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the 1st quarter and led 27-7 before Rochester closed out the half by cutting the deficit to 27-21. Neither team could put points up in the 2nd half but the Yellowjackets threatened in the final minute. They drove the ball down to the 2-yard line but the Pioneer defense held on four consecutive plays to seal the victory. Elijah Rimpel made a big 3rd down stop on a running attempt and Andrew Pierre-Paul knocked the ball away on a 4th down pass. Dashown Wilson rushed for 108 yards on 19 carries and was 8 for 15 with 102 yards passing. Wynter finished with 65 yards rushing and Andrew Thomas had four catches for 56 yards. Pierre-Paul led the Pioneer defense with nine solo tackles and a pair of pass break-ups. Rimpel also finished with nine tackles, Brian Williams had eight tackles and an interception. Key to the field position battle in the game was the punting of Michael Zimmerman. He sent four of his five punts inside the 20 and averaged 47 yards (long of 55) per punt.
  • Michael Zimmerman was named the ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week following his solid performance vs. Rochester.
  • Dashown Wilson rushed for over 100 yards (108 on 19 carries) as the Pioneers accumulated 290 yards of rushing offense on the day. Freshmen Nick Wynter rushed for 65 yards, Derek Ecklund rushed for 36, and Trevor Carson scored twice on short runs and finished with 36 yards.
  • The Pioneers have won the turnover battle thus far this season. They are a +4 through three games. Two of the Pioneers interceptions have been returned for touchdowns.
  • The young defensive backfield featuring Andrew Pierre-Paul, Kyle Campbell, Brian Williams, and Rylie Van Fleet have made big impacts already only three games into their careers.

Scouting Brockport:

  • The College at Brockport football team posted 28 third quarter points and cruised to a 55-22 victory over host Buffalo State on Saturday to retain the I-90 Bowl Trophy for the fourth consecutive season.  Freshman quarterback Freddy June rolled up 291 total yards and played a part in five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) as the Golden Eagle offense put together its top output of the young season. Brockport's receiving corps was efficient to say the least, as DaQuan Hubbard caught two balls for 106 yards, including an 88 yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.  Imhotep Cromer got Brockport started on the right foot as both of his catches resulted in touchdowns in the second quarter. Six different defenders totaled at least four tackles for Brockport. Freshman Raylens Boutin put together another stellar performance as he tied for the team lead with six tackles and he also added two pass breakups.  Joel Atuahene totaled six tackles, including 1.5 TFLs, while Jason Karteron added six tackles and a sack.  Kenny Hernandez and Alex West combined for 10 tackles.  Hernandez added one interception and West picked up his first sack of the season. Andrew Covais tacked on three tackles and an interception.
  • For his efforts Freddy June was named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week. June is a dual threat as he has rushed for 227 yards (7.3 yards per carry) and two scores and has passed for 325 yards (16 for 34) and three scores.
  • Turnovers have been big for the Eagles thus far this year. They have turned the ball over 11 times (8 intereceptions) in their first three games. They have taken the ball away eight times (7 interceptions).
  • Brockport is receiving votes in the lastest D3football.com poll - The Eagles have won the past two Empire 8 Championships.

Last Year's Meeting:

  • The two team's have not met 2015.
