Caver and Sowers Share Weekly Honors

Marcedes Caver (Cleveland, OH) and Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) have been selected as the Alfred State athletes of the week.  Caver scored a career high 39 points in the Lady Pioneers victory over SUNY Canton while Sowers was 3-0 and won the USCAA Invitational Championship title while 

Caver was 17 for 26 from the field and hit 5 of 9 three-point attempts as she established a new career high of 39 points in the Lady Pioneers 71-50 victory at Canton.  Caver also added eight rebounds, five steals, and two assists.  On the year she leads the Lady Pioneers with 324 points (19.1 ppg). 

Sowers started off the week with a pin of Oswego's Joseph Gorsuch in 1:28 in the Pioneers dual meet with the Lakers.  On Sunday at the USCAA Championships he earned pins of Tige Woodson (PS DuBois) in 28 seconds and a pin of Josh Rodriguez (Apprentice) in 33 seconds to win the 197 lb. title.  Sowers is now 13-9 on the season with 12 pins.

Caver and the Lady Pioneers host Mercyhurst North East on Thursday and travel to Central Penn College on Saturday while Sowers and the Pioneers take on Albany, Cortland, and Cobleskill on Saturday in the Alfred Quad.
