Witchella's Late Lay Up Lifts Lady Pioneers over Potsdam

Haley Witchella (Oxford) followed up her own miss with the game-winning lay-up with seven seconds remaining to lift Alfred State to a 43-42 victory over SUNY Potsdam in the first day of the Roos Classic at SUNY Canton. The Lady Pioneers are 2-1 on the year.

Witchella had a monster night for Alfred State. She finished with 27 points on 10 for 18 shooting. She also pulled down 22 rebounds and was credited with five steals and four blocks. Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) chipped in eight points.

Bailey Weigel led the Bears with 19 points and 18 rebounds while Meghan Driscoll had 11.

Alfred State held a 20-17 halftime lead. Neither team shot well, Alfred St. shot 25.8% (16 for 62) and Potsdam shot 21.9% (14 for 64).

After Witchella hit the Bears took a timeout but a last second three-point attempt did not fall.

The Lady Pioneers face Bard College in day two action in Canton on Sunday. Opening tip-off is slated for Noon at the Roos House.
