Impressive Opener for Pioneer Swimmers
The Alfred State women's swimming and diving team had an impressive start to the 2021-22 season as they defeated Buffalo State 145-95. Mikaela Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) and Alyssa James (Pittsford Mendon) were triple individual event winners.
Mikaela Snayczuk won the 100 breast in 1:12.99, the 200 fly in 2:50.57, and the 100 fly in 1:08.13 while James won the 100 back in 1:06.58, the 200 back in 2:25.01, and the 500 free in 5:59.98.
Other top performances included:
- Madison Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) won the 200 free in 2:10.85 and the 100 free in 58.19. She was also 2nd in the 50 free (26.26)
- Sarah Streeter (Byron Bergen) won the 1m diving competition with a score of 148.75
- Sydney Koob (Plainwell, MI) won the 200 IM in 2:45.09 and was 2nd in the 100 back (1:12.29) and the 2nd in the 200 back (2:38.96)
- Mackenzie Gillette (Elmira/Notre Dame) was 2nd in the 100 fly (1:14.68)
The 200 medley relay team of James, Madison Snayczuk, Mikaela Snayczuk, and Sarah Konyndyk (Grand Rapids, MI) won in 1:58.90 while the 200 free relay team of Alina Kisluk (Hamburg) Gillette, Gabriela Leite (Little Rock, AR), and Koob won in 2:01.48.
The blue & gold are back in the pool on Friday when they host SUNY Fredonia in a meet that starts at 6 p.m. at Alfred University.
