Cross Country: 3rd at Alfred University
Both the Alfred State men's and women's cross country teams had a solid showing as they raced at the Alfred University Jericho Hill Showdown. Both teams finished 3rd out of the five teams that competed.
Veronica Dailey (Addison) and Julia Russell (Candor) both finished the 4k course with top ten finishes. Dailey crossed the finish line 8th (16:01.10) while Russell was 9th (16:11.60). The Pioneers scored 92 points in the competition.
Ryan Lohr (West Seneca West) and Shawn Rutledge (Watkins Glen) led the men's team. Lohr crossed the finish line of the 6k course in 10th place in 20:41.10 while Rutledge finished in 12th in 20:45.30. The men scored 81 in the race.
Hartwick used a balanced attack to defeat the Pioneers 49-24 on Saturday. The Hawks accumulated 522 total yards while the Pioneers offense racked up 423 yards in the contest.
Dashown Wilson (Bronx/DeWitt Clinton) finished the day 19-38 for 262 yards and a score. He also rushed for 60 yards on 17 carries. Jalen Long (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) racked up his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game finishing with nine receptions for 130 yards. Ricky Hagins (Rochester/Eastridge) caught three passes for 96 yards and a score and Ronnie Clark (Philadelphia/Indian River) rushed for 89 yards on 16 carries.
John Lauretti (Seaford) led the Pioneer defense with six tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble while Garvin Nixon (Brooklyn/Erasmus Hall) recorded five solo tackles. Josh Smith (Fredricksburg, VA/Massaponax) intercepted a pass.
Men's Soccer: 0-4
The Pioneers lost a pair of one-goal contests this weekend at the Fuzzy Williams Memorial Classic. On Saturday they lost 1-0 to Franciscan and on Sunday they were tripped up 3-2 in overtime by Bethany (WV).
Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima) made 12 saves vs. Franciscan but a late goal in the 1st half lifted the Barons to the victory.
In a back and forth game vs. Bethany, the Bison scored 28 seconds into OT to pull out the victory. Albert Senyah (Long Island/Central Islip) and Dylan Talbot (Allegany Limestone) 2nd half goals to erase one-goal deficits.
Women's Soccer: 2-1-1
The women's soccer won both of their matches this week. They downed Medaille 3-2 in overtime and Morrisville 4-1.
Maggie Meyer (Red Creek) scored 7:42 into double overtime to lift the Pioneers to the victory over Medaille. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) and Carissa Pompa (Rochester/Mercy) scored earlier in the contest. Madison Papaj (Holley) made five saves in net for the victory.
Pompa scored twice in the victory over the Mustangs. Salatel and Meyer also found the back of the net as the Pioneers scored the first four goals of the game.
Playing at the Keuka Invitational, the volleyball team finished 1-2 over the weekend. They fell 3-0 to the hosts and lost a five set battle to Hartwick (3-2) before earning a sweep (3-0) over Hilbert.
Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) had a big weekend for the blue & gold. She finished with 36 kills and a .315 hitting percentage. Madison Webster (Corning) finished the three matches with 32 kills and 31 digs, Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 87 assists and had 17 service aces, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) chipped in 24 digs.
