Alfred State freshman goalie Madison Papaj (Holley) and junior safety Michael Zimmerman (Canandaigua) have been named the Alfred State Athletes of the Week.
Papaj led a defensive effort that kept the high scoring Potsdam offense in check for most of the game. Papaj made 12 saves, including several point blank opportunities, that kept Alfred State in a tight battle with the Bears. Papaj is 2-2-1 on the year with 23 saves.
Zimmerman was everywhere in the 1st half for the Pioneer football team as they battled Rochester. He recorded 10 of his 11 tackles in the contest in the 1st half. He also intercepted a pass to stop a Yellowjacket drive. Two of his tackles were for a loss and he punted five times for an average of 36.6 yards per punt.
