Pioneers Win CSAC Championship, Taggart Honored

The Alfred State women's track & field team won the CSAC Championship on Saturday. The championship is the first CSAC Championship for Alfred State.

Emma Taggart (New Windsor, MD) was named the most outstanding track performer of the championship. Taggart won three events. She won the 100 hurdles in 16.23, the long jump with a leap of 4.94 m, and the discus with a toss of 34.31 m. She was also 2nd in the high jump (1.50 m) and 3rd in the shot put (10.00 m).

Overall the Pioneers won eight individual titles and two relays. My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) won both the 400 (1:05.35) and the 200 (28.34), Katie Watkins (Addison) won the steeplechase in 13:33.04, Sarah Rivet (Waterford/Shenendehowa) won the 400 hurdles in 1:10.27, and Alyssa Delany (Hornell) won the triple jump with a leap of 10.53 m.

The 4x100 relay team of Delany, Marina Miketish (Olean), Chivonna Reed (Fairport), and Davis won in 51.85 while the 4x400 relay team of Katherine O'Buckley (Queens/Francis Lewis), Rivet, Miketish, and Davis won in 4:30.73.

The blue & gold also registered seven 2nd place finishes:

  • Delany was 2nd in the 100 hurdles (16.61)
  • Miketish was 2nd in the 200 (28.54)
  • Annaliese Hersom (Byron Bergen) was 2nd in the 10,000 (51:08.13)
  • Isabelle Popoff (Cicero North Syracuse) was 2nd in the 400 (1:09.68) 
  • Madeline Cole (Homer) was 2nd in the 100 (13.68)
  • O'Buckley was 2nd in the 400 hurdles (1:15.40)
  • Reed was 2nd in the long jump (4.92 m)

Alfred State scored 247 points and led the other four teams that competed. Penn State Behrend finished 2nd (139), Cedar Crest was 3rd (98), Keystone was 4th (70), and Notre Dame of Maryland was 5th (30).

The Pioneers compete again on Friday when they travel to the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks Capstone Meet.
