Katherine Frascella Named AMCC Woman of the Year

Frascella Named the 2021 AMCC Woman of the Year

Alfred State senior Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) has been named the 2021 AMCC Woman of the Year. She is a member of the Pioneers cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams, graduating with a 3.94 GPA in Nursing.

Frascella has been involved in numerous community service and campus activities, as well as many leadership positions throughout her tenure at Alfred State. Once the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Frascella began working full-time on the front lines as a nurse. She developed COVID-19 from an exposure at work, and was subsequently unable to return to track as an athlete. She then served as a student assistant coach for the men's and women's track and field teams in 2021. During her senior year in college as a full-time student and assistant track coach, she also worked as a full-time Registered Nurse at Olean General Hospital and part-time as a Registered Nurse for Alfred State Health and Wellness.

Throughout her four years as a Pioneer, Frascella also participated in numerous other leadership and service positions, such as SUNY's Got Your Back Backpack Drive, Yards for Yeardly, Dr. Seuss Reading Week, Special Olympics, Hope for Health Club Member, Community Give Back Day. She served as the team captain for the women's cross country and track programs, and was a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Additionally, Frascella earned countless academic honors for her high achievement in the Nursing field. She earned the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the Alfred State Athletics Legacy Award, and the Paul B. Orvis Award for Student Excellence at ASC. She was also a member of Chi Alpha Sigma (the national honor society for collegiate athletes), Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the National Society for Leadership and Success, to name a few.

"Kate is an outstanding young woman and I could not be happier that she has been selected as the AMCC Woman of the Year," commented Director of Athletics Jason Doviak. "She was a dedicated member of the Cross Country and Track & Field teams while also excelling in the classroom. Kate was recognized with multiple awards for her academic performance but her contributions outside of academics were equally as impressive."

Athletically, Frascella was a member of the 2017 ACAA Cross Country Championship team.

Frascella is the first Pioneer to ever earn this honor from the AMCC.

Frascella will now be in consideration for the NCAA Woman of the Year. The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee identifies the Top 30 – 10 from each division – and from there selects three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women's Athletics then selects the winner from the nine finalists.
