Taggart Breaks School Record in Heptathlon

Emma Taggart (New Windsor, MD) set a new Alfred State standard in the heptathlon at the All-Atlantic Region Championships. She improved her personal best by nearly 500 points.

Taggart accumulated 4,013 points over the sevens events of the heptathlon. Her total was high enough to earn 3rd overall in the competition. On day two, Taggart scored 557 points in the long jump (4.99 m), 465 points in the 800 m (2:49.90), and 263 points in the javelin (18.61 m). This followed yesterday's performance where she scored 797 points in the 100 m hurdles (15.34), 724 in the high jump (1.59 m), 526 points in the shot put (9.94 m), and 681 points in the 200 m (27.37). Overall she finished in the top three in five of the events.

Taggart's new personal record of 4,013 points was 479 points more than her previous best and broke teammate Marina Miketish's (Olean) record of 3,623 points.

Miketish finished 4th overall in the heptathlon with 3,839 points. Her performance was 216 points higher than her previous best. Today, she scored 472 points in the long jump (4.67 m), 347 points in the javelin (23.11 m), and 620 points in the 800 m (2:35.97). Yesterday, she scored 680 points in the 100 m hurdles (16.28), 655 points in the high jump (1.53 m), 414 points in the shot put (8.23 m), and 651 points in the 200 m (27.74).

Sarah Rivet (Waterford/Shenendehowa) finished 15th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:11.40.

The Pioneers scored 11 points in the two-day competition held at St. John Fisher to earn 17th place in the team's standings. 30 of the 34 teams that competed scored points in the event.
