Pioneers Edge Panthers 2-1

Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) hit a RBI double and scored on a two-out wild pitch in the 7th inning as Alfred State defeated Pitt-Bradford 2-1 in a pitching dual. The Pioneers improve to 12-22 on the year and have six of their last eight games.

Pitt-Bradford got on the board in the 3rd inning when Jean Turber singled. He stole second and came around to score following two Pioneer errors.

Chris Borden (Scotia-Glenville) led off the 7th with a bad hop single and went to second after a sac bunt by Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia). Wheaton delivered a double to left center to tie it. He went to third on a ground out and scored on a two out wild pitch.

Matthew Nawrot (Clarence), Kyle Kuzma (Waverly), and Brady Sass (Caledonia Mumford) tossed a gem for the blue & gold. Nawrot allowed five hits over six inning of work. He walked three and struck out three while allowing just one run. Kuzma stranded a runner on third in his one inning of work and earned the victory. Sass pitched the final two innings to earn the save.

Abe Frech was equally impressive for the Panthers. He allowed just two runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out four in his eight innings of work.

Matthew Sompel was the lone player on either team with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4.

The Pioneers are back on their home diamond tomorrow afternoon when they battle Medaille at 2 p.m. The game, originally scheduled to be a doubleheader, will be one single 9-inning game.
