Pitt Bradford Rallies for a Pair of Victories

Pitt-Bradford rallied in both contests to sweep a doubleheader from Alfred State on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers took the opener 6-5 and the nightcap 5-2.

In the opener, Pitt Bradford stormed back from a 5-0 deficit with six runs in the 7th inning. After scoring two runs, Kody Johnston hit a two-out, two-run double and came around to score the winning run on a two-run single by Connor Borowski.

Nicholas Padley (Sweet Home) drew a one-out walk in the 7th but Ryan Northcott got the final two outs of the contest on a double-play.

The Pioneers scored all their runs in the 5th inning. Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton), Padley, and Hierlwimmer all had RBI singles and Jordyn Confer (Tioga, PA) delivered a two-run double in the big inning.

Abe Frech pitched the first six innings allowing six hits (four in the 5th) and five runs to earn the victory while Northcott picked up the save by recording the final three outs.

Ryan Hedges (Arkport) did not factor in the decision but pitched well. He went 6.1 innings allowing six hits (three in the 7th) and four walks while striking out five.

Padley was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 2 while Dalton Renn finished 2 for 3 for the Panthers.

In the nightcap, Bradford used a four-run 6th inning to erase a 2-1 deficit. In the key inning Brock Blovsky drew a bases loaded walk to tie it, Alexx Tyger followed with a two-run single, and Blovsky scored on the Pioneers second error of th inning.

Confer broke the scoreless game and gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning with a two-out single to right. Borowski tied the game up in the 5th with a pinch hit sac fly. Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) scored on a wild pitch in the 5th before the Panthers big inning.

Brady Sass (Caledonia Mumford) did not factor in the decision but pitched five efficient inning allowing only four hits and no earned runs. He walked two and struck out three. Confer finished the day 2 for 2 with a RBI.

Brody Wood was 2 for 2 for the Panthers while Ethan Lear was 2 for 4. Ryan Chamberlain picked up the victory out of the bullpen while James Iversen earned the save.

The blue & gold wrap up their 2015 campaign on Tuesday when they host Keuka at 2 p.m.
