Pioneers Continue Roll

The Alfred State baseball team won their seventh contest in their last nine on Thursday with a 11-6 victory over Medaille. The Pioneers are now 13-22 on the year with four games remaining in their season.

Medaille grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 3rd when Jake Tyno singled in a run and came around to score on a throwing error. 

Alfred State answered right back in the bottom of the 3rd when Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) tripled home two and scored on a throwing error. In the the 4th, the Pioneers added to their lead when Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) drew a bases loaded walk and Wheaton delivered a sac fly.

Tyno had a RBI grounout in the 5th before Dylan Lewis-Ellison (Whitesville) scored on a wild pitch and Jordyn Confer (Tioga, PA) hit a sac fly to make it 7-3.

In the 6th, the Pioneers scored two more on a pair of throwing errors to enjoy their biggest lead of the game.

The Mavericks plated two runs in the 7th on a RBI single by Patrick Castile and a RBI single by TJ Serba. They added another run in the 8th on a RBI grounder by Ryan Markiewicz.

In the 8th, the Pioneers added two insurance runs on a throwing error and a RBI single by Nick Smith (Arkport).

The Pioneers finished the day with ten hits and took advantage of eight Maverick walks and five errors. Lewis-Ellison was 3 for 4 while Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia), Confer, and Smith were each 2 for 4.

On the mound, Jake Remington (Letchworth) earned the win to improve to 4-3 on the year with 7.1 innings of work. He allowed 11 hits, four earned runs, and two walks while striking out two. Conner Odonoghue (Avon) got the final two outs of the 8th and Austin Baker (Canisteo Greenwood) recorded the final three outs of the contest.

Serba, Daniel Luppens, and Erik Balcerzak were each 3 for 4 for Medaille (13-18).

The Pioneers host Pitt-Bradford on Sunday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Alfred State defeated Bradford 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
