Men Down Cobleskill in the Pool

The Alfred State men's swimming team defeated SUNY Cobleskill 134-89 on Saturday afternoon to earn their first victory of the season. On the women's side, the Tigers earned a 100-41 victory.

John Paul Hulubek (Wayland Cohocton) and Zach Russell (Pal-Mac) were double-winners for the men. Holubek won the 1000 free (11:25.40) and the the 100 breast (1:11.33) while Russell won the 50 free (23.26) and the 100 free (51.20). Both of Russell's winning times were new school NCAA records.

Tim Seitzinger (Bel Air, MD) won the 200 IM (2:21.25), Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford) won the 100 fly (1:03.31), and Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) won the 500 free (5:19.71). Don Piatek (Springville-Griffith) was 2nd in the 100 fly (1:03.79) and Alex Ciolek (Orchard Park) was 2nd in the 100 back (1:04.97). Tim Berry (Midlakes) set new NCAA school records in both the five-dive (177.40) and six-dive (324.55) 1 m competitions.

The 400 medley relay team of Cutler, Sietzinger, Russell and Sporysz won in 4:07.78 while the 400 free relay team of Ciolek, Wyatt Lipinski (Oswego), Andrew Callaghan (Pal-Mac), and Piatek finished 2nd in 3:45.29 

Josey Brewer (Letchworth) won the 200 IM (2:46.28) and Allison Sell (Hanover, PA) won the 100 breast (1:16.57) to pace the women's team. The 400 medley relay team of Myriah Perry (Canisteo Greenwood), Sell, Megan Hendershot (Brockport), and Brewer set a new Alfred State NCAA record with a 4:55.39 while the same quartet set a new high mark in the 400 free relay (4:28.53).

Hendershot was 2nd in the 100 back (1:17.47) and Perry was 2nd in the 500 free (6:44.33).

Coach RC Weston was excited about his teams performance. "The Pioneers fought hard and swam fast. It was great to see a team effort come through for the first victory of the season for the men and to see some record breaking performances on both sides with the women establishing new relay marks as well."

The Pioneers are back at it next Saturday when they travel to Cazenovia for a 1 p.m. contest.
