Swimmers Battle Oswego in Home Opener

The Alfred State swimming team opened up the home portion of their season with some strong performances vs. Oswego. The Lakers won the men's competition 116.5 to 79.5 and the women's battle 102-36.

The Pioneers men earned victories in three events on the night. Zach Russell (Pal Mac) tied Austin Nau in the fiercest battle of the night. Both swimmers touched the pad at 1:55.29 in the 200 free. Russell was also 2nd in the 100 free (51.50). 

The 200 free relay team of Wyatt Lipinski (Oswego), Tim Seitzinger (Bel Air, MD), Alex Ciolek (Orchard Park), and Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford) won in 1:37:47. Sporysz also won the 50 free in 24.53.

The 200 medley relay team finished 2nd in 1:48.34, Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) was 2nd in the 100 free (51.50), and John Paul Holubek (Wayland Cohocton) was 2nd in the 500 free (5:41.20).

On the women's side the 200 medley relay team of Megan Hendershot (Brockport), Allison Sell (Hanover, PA), Josey Brewer (Letchworth), and Myriah Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) finished 2nd in 2:11.61. Sell was also 2nd in the 200 fly (2:34.34) and swam the 200 breast in 2:43.89 while Hendershot swam the 200 back in 2:42.70.

The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday when they host Wells College at 1 p.m.
