Swimmers Sweep Wells

The Alfred State swimming team swept Wells College in a Saturday afternoon dual meet. The Pioneer men ran away with a 165-71 victory while the Lady Pioneers earned their first win of the season 110-97.

The women's 200 medley relay team set the tone for the day with a victory in the first race of the day. Kate Fox (Dansville), Josey Brewer (Letchworth), Allison Sell (Hanover, PA), and Myriah Perry (Canisteo) won by nine seconds in 2:04.97.

Sell was key to the success with victories in the 200 free (2:14.11), the 200 back (2:46.58), the 200 breaststroke (2:46.58), and the 400 IM (5:10.27). Fox notched victories in the 100 back (1:07.53) and the 50 free (28.84).

Megan Hendershot (Brockport) won the 1,000 free (13:24.80), Brewer won the 100 breast (1:20.19), and Perry won the 100 free (1:08.31). Diver Shelby Detro (Geneva) was also key as she swam to 3rd place finishes in the 50 free (35.87) and 100 free (1:23.81) to earn valuable team points.

On the men's side the Pioneers won the first 12 races of the competition. Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ), John Paul Holubek (Wayland Cohocton), and Zach Russell (Pal-Mac) all won three events on the day.

Cutler won the 200 fly (2:18.73), the 200 back (2:15.50), and the 400 IM (4:44.37). His time in the 400 IM qualified him for the ECAC Winter Championships. Holubek won the 1,000 free (11:40.53), the 100 breast (1:11.73) and the 500 free (5:38.42) while Russell won the 200 free (1:56.36), the 100 free (53.42), and the 100 fly (1:01.26).

Alex Ciolek (Orchard Park) won the 100 back (1:03.63), Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford) won the 50 free (24.42), and Tim Seitzinger (Bel Air, MD) won the 200 breast (2:49.75).

The Pioneers have a few days off before heading to the ECAC Winter Championships. The Championships held at Nassau County Aquatics Center take place December 4-6.
