Men's Swimming Wins Cazenovia Invite, Women 2nd

The Alfred State men's swimming team won the Cazenovia Invitational with 750 points while the women's team finished 2nd with 243 points. The team combined to win 16 events (12 men and 4 women) on the day.

Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) and Zach Russell (Pal-Mac) were triple event winners for the Pioneers. Cutler set a new NCAA DIII school record in winning the 1,000 free (11:15.67), won the 200 back (2:18.15), and the 500 free (5:29.82). Russell won the 50 free (23.30), the 100 free (52.42), and the 200 free (1:57.75).

John Paul Holubek (Wayland Cohocton) and Tim Seitzinger (Bel Air, MD) won two events each. Holubek won the 100 breast (1:11.27) and the 200 breast (2:37.36) while Seitzinger won the 200 fly (2:30.68) and the 200 IM (2:26.98). Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 2nd in diving setting new high marks for six dive (188.65) and 11 dive programs (334.60).

The 400 free relay team of Cutler, Wyatt Lipinksi (Oswego), Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford), and Russell won and broke the school NCAA DIII record by three seconds (3:41.99) while the 400 medley relay team of of Alex Ciolek (Orchard Park), Holubek, Seitzinger, and Don Piatek (Springville Griffith) won in 4:16.12).

On the women's side Allison Sell (Hanover, PA) had a big day winning three events. She won the 100 breast (1:14.16), the 200 breast (2:50.10), and 200 IM (2:27.21) and established new NCAA era marks in the 100 breast, the 200 IM and 100 free (split of 1:00.40 in the 400 free relay). Josey Brewer (Letchworth) was 2nd in the breast (1:22.05).

The 400 medley relay team of Sell, Brewer, Megan Hendershot (Brockport), and Myriah Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) dropped their time by over two seconds and won in 4:53.22. The same quartet dropped over three seconds in the 400 free relay (4:25.35). 

Coach Weston on the meet: "Our team stepped up their game and gave their most impressive performance since my arrival at Alfred State. The team is coming together as a family and their performances reflect the passion and dedication they bring each day. I am looking forward to witnessing their success throughout the remainder of the season!"

The Pioneers open up the home portion of their season on Friday night when they host Oswego at 6 p.m.
