Lady Pioneers Win Two More

The Alfred State volleyball team wrapped up their opening weekend with a pair of victories at the D'Youville tri-match. The Lady Pioneers defeated D'Youville 25-13, 20-25, 28-26, 25-15 and then downed Cazenovia 25-16, 25-15, 25-16.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) and Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) both had 12 kills in the victory over D'Youville. Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) finished with 38 assists and 14 digs, Valerie Intini (Eastridge) led the team with 20 digs, and Shaina Griffin (Portville) finished with seven kills and 11 digs.

Megan Schneider led the Spartans with 10 kills and 21 digs while Abby Booth had 16 assists and 11 digs. 

The Lady Pioneers collected 11 service aces on the day and had two solo blocks and 10 assisted blocks.

Grace Hall (Ellicottville) recorded seven kills on eight attempts and had five aces vs. Cazenovia while Godfrey led the way with nine kills. Szpaicher passed out 30 assists while Initini led the team with 15 digs.

Amethyst Thompson led the Wildcats with seven kills while Allison Lowery passed out 13 assists. 

The Lady Pioneers connected on 34 kills on 79 attempts and had 15 service aces.

The blue & gold head to Houghton on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest with cross county rival Highlanders.
