Lady Pioneers Win 7th Straight

The Alfred State volleyball team traded their traditional blue and gold jerseys in for pink versions on Wednesday as they defeated Penn College 26-24, 25-23, 25-14. The Lady Spikers have now won seven straight and are 19-2 on the year.

Alfred State and Penn College battled in a tight match during the first two sets before the Lady Pioneers sealed the victory with a convincing third set victory.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) had a big night with 14 kills and 11 digs while Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) added 11 kills (no errors) and three blocks. Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) finished with 32 assists and 14 digs, Valerie Intini (Eastridge) picked up 12 digs, and Jessica Padley (Buffalo/Sweet Home) added 11 digs.

Maddison Deibert finished with six kills and 10 digs to lead the Wildcats. Lauren Slater added 16 assists and 10 digs.

The game featured games, prizes, and fund raisers to raise money for Allegany County Cancer Services. ACCS provides gift cards for residents of our county to help those who are dealing with cancer treatment or expenses. This is the third straight year the volleyball team has partnered with ACCS and the 10th year the team has taken part in some sort of breast cancer awareness game.

The Lady Pioneers, ranked #3 in the USCAA, head to the Wilkes Tournament this weekend. They take on CCNY and Keystone on Friday and Moravian and Wilkes on Saturday.
