Lady Spikers Split on Day One of USCAA Tournament

The Alfred State volleyball team split a pair of matches in pool play on day one of the 2016 USCAA National Championships in Virginia Beach, VA. The Lady Pioneers, making their 3rd straight trip to Nationals, are now 25-6 on the year.

In their opening match vs. NHTI the Lady Pioneers rolled to a 25-8 25-11 victory. The Lady Pioneers hit an outstanding .514 on the day and recorded 10 service aces.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) had six kills and three digs while Grace Hall (Ellicottville) chipped in four. Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) passed out 12 assists while Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) had five aces, five digs, and three kills.

Versus Carlow (PA), the Celtics earned 25-17 and 25-16 victories. The Lady Pioneers hit only .176 in the contest and had eight service errors.

Godfrey led the way with 10 kills while Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) added four kills and two blocks. Szpaicher passed out 12 assists and Madison Webster (Corning) led the team with six digs.

The blue & gold wrap up pool play tomorrow when they battle Illinois Tech at 10 a.m. and Florida College at 2:30 p.m. Quarterfinal matches are slated for 4 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.
