Alfred State Completes Sweep of Alfred Tournament

The Alfred State volleyball team completed the sweep of the Alfred Tournament with a pair of victories on Saturday at Alfred University. The Lady Spikers defeated Pitt-Bradford 29-27, 25-19, 25-22 and Morrisville State 25-14, 25-21, 15-25, 25-14 to finish 4-0 on the weekend and improve to 18-2 on the year.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) led the way with 12 kills and 14 digs in the opening victory vs. Pitt Bradford. Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) recorded eight blocks and seven kills, Jessica Padley (Buffalo/Sweet Home) chipped in seven kills and 12 digs, and Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) passed out 34 assists. Madison Webster (Corning) finished the day with a team high 23 digs.

Sydney Shepherd led the Panthers with nine kills, Christina Rauh passed out 24 assists, and Brianna Majot chipped in 12 digs.

Hamilton continued her big day with 10 kills and four blocks in the victory over Morrisville. Padley added nine kills and 12 digs, Szpaicher had seven kills, 31 assists, and 16 digs, and Webster collected 38 digs.

The Lady Pioneers collected an impressive 14 service aces in the contest led by Godfrey and Szpaicher with four each.

Megyan Merrill led the Mustangs with 10 kills, Kimberly Dunkleman passed out 18 assists, and Samantha Wolf recorded 22 digs. 

The blue & gold host Penn College on Wednesday night in their annual Dig Pink match. Opening serve is slated for 7 p.m.
